Caespitose rattan, clumps with up to 15 stems; cane up to 20 m long, 3 cm in diam.; internodes 28-30 cm long, yellowish to greenish. Leaf sheath 35-40 cm long, green, glabrous, covered with scattered, 1 mm long spines, splitting cleanly for 5-8 cm, spines along margins up to 5 mm long, ocrea absent or very short; leaf petiole absent or up to 2 cm long; leaf rachis 220-240 cm long, yellowish green with 2 x 32-35 leaflets; cirrus 110-130 cm long. Flowering shoot: upper 10 nodes carrying inflorescences in the axils of the subtending leaf. Peduncle 10-15 cm long; first PD exposed, tubular, bicarinate, green with ferrugineous momentum, breaking up irregularly at the apex; inflorescence rachis 20-32 cm long, covered by tubular rachis bracts, these being green and glabrous; number of first rachilla branches 5 in basal inflorescences to 3 in distal inflorescences, 70-95 cm long, entirely covered by the subtending bracts of the partial inflorescences, these being about 4 cm long, green with brown margins, surrounding the rachis branch basally and split to the base; partial inflorescences about 3 cm long, with 7-8 sessile functionally female flowers; inflorescence emitting a strong vanilla like smell. Fruit bearing shoot: PD bract tubular, shortly exposed, disintegrated apically; number of fruit bearing rachillae 5-3; rachis bracts tubular, partly disintegrated, chartaceous, brown; rachillae 60-80 cm long. Fruits almost mature, about 2 cm long and 2.2 cm wide; endosperm not ruminate, solidified; fruit scales olive green with brown edges. Shoots edible. Cane used for furniture. |
