Open thicket in cleared areas and bordering degraded, fire-damaged, deciduous, seasonal hardwood+bamboo forest; limestone bedrock. Deciduous, tree-like woody climber, 8 m tall, basal diameter 20 cm; bark thin, roughly cracked & flaking, grey, older parts with spine-tipped, mammiform tubercules; main inflorescence axes dull greenish; pedicels, calyx lobes, filaments yellow/green; calyx tube green; 4 petals bright yellow; standard light yellow with fine, thin, light red lines inside; anthers dark brown; fragrant; immature pods dull light green; leaflet segments dull dark green above: dull light green below liquid from boiled bark drunk to strengthen the heart; old, dry wood used to denature alcohol, gives it a dark red colour. |
