Culm-forming herb up to 4 m tall. Leaves 23-40 per pseudostem, basal 1/3 leafless. Lamina up to 61 x 13 cm, tip. Petiole 15-16 cm. Ligule 13-15 mm. Inflorescence 8.5 x 3-3.5 cm. Involucral and sterile bracts bright red. Bracteole semi-translucent pink. Flower 7-9.5 cm long. Calyx 5.2-6.5 cm long, unilateral slit 1-2 cm long, white at base, pinkish towards the tip. Floral tube 5.2-6.2 cm, white with dark pink, lateral corolla lobe 16 x 6 mm, pink, labellum 25 cm long, 5 mm broad at base, constricted 5 mm, tip 9 mm broad at base pinkish red, white at tip. Lateral staminoide up to 7 mm long, needle-like, pinkish red at base, white at tip. Anthers sessile (no visible filament), merged to floral tube. Anther 13 x 4 mm, theace 12 x 1 mm. Stigma 2 x 2.5 mm, white, ostiole front facing, anther crest thick, 1 mm long. Ovary 3-5 x 3 mm. Fruit unripe 20 x 13 mm, seed 4-5 x 3-4 mm, enclosed in aril. |
