Clustered palm with erect stems 7.5 m tall. Leaves bipinnate, ovate, 2.5 m long x 2 m wide, petiole 19 cm long, pinnae 29-113 cm long, pinnules fishtail shape, leaf sheaths ca. 1.3 m long. Inflorescences originate at node, male and female flowers are in the same inflorescence. Male flowers develop before female flowers. Male flower with 3 grayish violet spindle-shaped petals, green sepals, numerous stamens. Female flower with 3 pinkish red petals, green sepals with brown margin, green ovary, sessile stigmas. Fruits globose, green at immature stage, red to blackish at maturity. |
