Terrestrial herb in clump. Sheath, brownish green; lamina, mid-green, mid rib pale red when young, burgundy beneath when young. Inflorescence radical; scales purple-brown; bracts prickly, red. Flowers c. 3 cm long, extending c. 1 cm beyond the bract; bract pale dark red; bracteole pale brown at base otherwise pale dark red; calyx pale orange-brown in lower half and pale dark red in upper half; corolla tube pale rose, pale yellow above, lobes cream yellow with red apex; labellum pale yellow; stamen pale yellow. Taste slightly pine-like. |
