Cultivated in palm collection. Acaulescent, caespitose palm with about 8-10 stems per cluster. Dioecious. Leaves c. 10-15 per stem, pinnate. Leaf sheath 360 cm long, with spines gathered in clusters of 1-7. Petiole triangular in CS to subterete, shallowly grooved above with minute spines. Leaf rachis 3.2 m long. Leaflets 2 x 41, 4-6 x 30-98 cm, glabrous below, above with small spines along the major veins. Inflorescence terminal, compact, partly hidden among the leaves. Male inflorescence erect, with catkin-like rachilla. |
